what's on in pennine yorkshire

arts, culture, events and festivals in the pennines

Pennine Yorkshire's first artists were the early humans who carved the rocks on Ilkley Moor. The landscape here has been inspiring artists ever since.

The visual arts are a vital part of life in Pennine Yorkshire. Salt's Mill in Saltaire offers a stunning exhibition of works by Yorkshire-born artist David Hockney. Whilst Ashley Jackson Galleries in Holmfirth is the only location to view the unique and evocative paintings of lancscape watercolourist Ashley Jackson.  The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is the place to see contemporary sculpture.

Our brass bands can be found marching through Saddleworth and Hebden Bridge during the annual competitions. Folk music is also important, with regular events in the Ryburn Valley, whilst for jazz, head for Marsden or Dean Clough in Halifax.

And with active choral societies in most towns, there's a lively classical music scene. Heptonstall is particularly associated with classical music concerts
