music in pennine yorkshire

The moorland landscape has influenced musicians of all kinds.  Composer Frederick Delius, was born and grew up in Yorkshire.  More recently the living British composer Arthur Butterworth has captured the Pennine landscapes well in his works.

Classical music lovers are spoiled for choice.  Hilltop Heptonstall plays host each year to the Pennine Spring Music Festival and don't miss the Holmfirth Musical Festival every autumn. Both the Huddersfield and Halifax Choral Societies are nationally renowned, and perform regularly in their home towns.

Professional folk musicians like Pete Coe living in the Ryburn Valley near Ripponden organise their own regular barn dances and folk club sessions, whilst the Holmfirth Festival of Folk is a firm summer favourite. For jazz, head to the Marsden Jazz Festival, or to Dean Clough in Halifax.
