heritage
Pennine Yorkshire looks to the future, but remembers the past with pride.
This land was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution, where fast-flowing streams drove the mills which powered the early spinning and weaving mills. Today packhorse routes are much loved by walkers, and old mill are transformed into modern accommodation and spas.
Turn the clock back for a while, for example, on a visit to the Colne Valley Museum in Golcar, or learn more of the exploits of the navvies who built with their sweat (and dynamite!) the Standedge tunnel in Marsden. The Museum of Rail Travel, run by the Vintage Carriages Trust, is at Ingrow, near Keighley next to the Ingrow Loco museum and workshop.
Or visit the cobbled streets of the old hilltop weaving village of Heptonstall, where the old Grammar school is now Heptonstall Museum.
