outdoor adventures in pennine yorkshire
Experience the great outdoors of the pennines
The clue's in the name: in Pennine Yorkshire the hills are always close at hand, waiting to be explored, and ready to offer the perfect location for a family adventure holiday or adrenalin filled weekend with friends.
Our beautiful countryside offers something for all who enjoy spending their holiday walking, whether it's a stroll along one of our canalside paths or an ambitious day hike across the heather moors. Bring your binoculars, and get to know Pennine Yorkshire's distinctive bird life en-route. Cyclists are spoiled for choice, too: two national cycle routes come our way, wending their way along quiet country lanes and by-ways, whilst there's ample opportunity for off-road adventure on the Pennine moorland bridleways. Pennine Yorkshire is the perfect place to come for your next cycling holiday.
If you're a horse-rider, you'll be able to follow the routes once trodden by packhorse trains, carrying cloth across the Pennine moors. Follow the Pennine Bridleway, the first long-distance trail designed for riders.
If you are looking to get the adrenalin going, we've plenty to tempt you. There are climbing and bouldering possibilities on our gritstone outcrops and a slalom route for canoeists on the river Calder. Pennine Yorkshire is also one of the country's top areas for fell-running, with regular fell races throughout the year to leave you tired, muddy, but exhilarated.
