Inspire me - great things to see and do in pennine yorkshire

World class:  Saltaire, created by nineteenth century millowner Sir Titus Salt, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Salt's Mill is now home to the world's finest collection of works by David Hockney.

Hats off:  Ilkley Moor, famous in song, has some of Britain's most impressive prehistoric carvings.

Independent thinking:  Hebden Bridge is capital of independent shopping in Britain, according to one recent survey.

Vintage stuff:  Holmfirth, the setting of Last of the Summer Wine,  is an artistic and cultural centre, too.

Brontë mania:  the Brontë sisters' home in Haworth is now the Parsonage Museum.

Chuffing good fun:  the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway is one of Britain's premier heritage railways

Hands on:  Eureka! The National Children's Museum in Halifax is interactive heaven for active kids.

Moore to see:  the Yorkshire Sculpture Park is an open air art gallery, with forty sculptures set in 400 acres.  Look out for the Henry Moore works.

Tunnel vision: see the Pennines from underneath, in a cruise through the deep and dark Standedge Tunnel.

Rambling on: walking boots on, to visit Stoodley Pike obelisk on the Pennine Way near Todmorden or the heather moors of Marsden Moor (National Trust).
