horse riding
The opening of the Pennine Bridleway, the first national trail designed for horse-riders, has transformed the opportunities for riding in our area.
Four farms at key points on the trail have combined forces as Towneley Trailriding to help riders planning to complete the whole of the Mary Towneley Loop. Each offers bed and breakfast for riders and overnight stabling.
There's plenty of opportunities too for day riding. The large number of riding schools and centres in Pennine Yorkshire include the Longfield Equestrian Centre (Todmorden), the Tops Riding Centre (Blackshawhead), Hebden Bridge Equestrian Centre, the Norland Equestrian Centre (Sowerby Bridge), and the Ilkley Riding Centre. Several offer quiet hacks on moorland bridleways to experienced riders.
